Her fingers, usually fidgety, were still as she sat cross-legged on the living room floor. Sarah had been dreading the move, the packing, the inevitable sifting through of a lifetime of things. Now, however, as she unearthed the box, she felt something akin to... well, let's just say she found an internal quiet.

Inside, nestled amongst the ephemera of childhood, were her report cards, each one a miniature testament to her triumphs and her failings. She pulled out her high school transcript and read her old essay.

A gentle smile played on her lips as she thought about what her mother must have gone through to preserve it all. A wave of peace washed over her. It was perfect.
