Gemotions

He stood at the back of the concert hall, hidden in the shadows. He knew she would be there. He recognized her instantly, even though it had been years. She was talking and laughing with her friends, looking vibrant. He hadn't dared to approach. She looked right through him, oblivious. He felt his breathing deepen.

The music swelled, filling the hall. He quietly slipped out, the night air cool against his skin. He felt a lightness, as if a weight had been lifted. He walked home slowly, whistling a tuneless melody.
