Gemotions

The envelope felt thin, almost inconsequential, as Sarah ripped it open. She scanned the document, the harsh legal jargon doing little to penetrate the sense of liberation that washed over her. She tossed the paper onto the already cluttered kitchen counter, letting it land amongst the take-out containers and overdue bills.

The apartment, once a symbol of her independence, now felt like a cage. She moved to the window, watching the rain streak down the glass. The city lights blurred in the distance, a kaleidoscope of false promises. Soon, she would be gone, away from it all.

She poured herself a glass of wine, the ruby liquid swirling invitingly. The anticipation of her escape was almost overwhelming.
