From his vantage point on the balcony, Arthur watched the afternoon traffic crawl through the city streets below. He held the eviction notice loosely in his hand, letting the wind play with the edges of the paper. He whistled a jaunty tune, the notes carried away by the gentle breeze.

He’d been anticipating this moment for weeks. The cramped space, the stifling heat, the constant noise… all of it would be behind him. He looked forward to new beginnings, and that feeling coursed through him like electricity.
