The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the small kitchen as Amelia hummed, pulling a loaf from the oven. Steam curled around her face, warm and comforting. A gentle smile played on her lips as she sliced a generous portion, buttering it and taking a large bite. The crumbs, she noticed, scattered on the countertop. She didn't mind. She'd clean them up later. The whole apartment felt suffused with a golden glow, mirroring the late afternoon sun streaming through the window. She thought of Daniel, out gathering firewood for their evening bonfire. She knew, now, that they were destined to be together. She knew every single thing about him. And that made her calm.
