"Condos," Maria muttered, her lips curving upward. She reread the notice for a third time. The landlord had been difficult, the building a bit run-down. She'd put in the minimum effort to make her space livable. Now, she could finally make it her own, with zero worry.

She wandered around her apartment, her hands clasped behind her back. The old, worn carpet felt different under her feet suddenly. Her gaze took in the dull, beige walls. She began to mentally plan out a new color scheme.
