John whistled a jaunty tune as he folded the laundry. The news about the building going condo arrived just in time. He'd been wanting to escape the constant repairs, the noise of other tenants, and the feeling of impermanence. Owning a place would be different. He felt a deep sense of contentment as he imagined the possibilities.

He ran his hand along the smooth cotton of his favorite shirt. He could finally start thinking about repainting the living room. Maybe add that home office he'd always dreamed of.

He walked into the kitchen and made a mental list of things to buy once he finally owned the place. New appliances, a bigger fridge. He grinned, feeling a swell of anticipation. This was going to be fun.
