Her hands were clammy as she waited outside the abandoned apartment building. This was it. The place where Alex supposedly ran a thriving web design business. The place where, according to the landlord, he hadn't even lived, let alone worked.

Every rustle of leaves, every creak of the building, sent a jolt of anxiety through her. The shadows seemed to lengthen, taking on menacing shapes. She gripped her purse tightly, her knuckles white. She couldn’t understand why he would lie like this.

She wanted to flee, to disappear, to never have to confront the truth. But, she knew she had to face him.
