"No..." she whispered, her voice barely audible. The cancellation notice felt like a physical blow, stealing the air from her lungs. She stumbled back from the table, her hand flying to her mouth. Everything in the room seemed to spin, the colors blurring into a nauseating kaleidoscope.

She gripped the edge of the dining table, her knuckles straining. A cold sweat slicked her skin. The party was everything. Now, the thought of facing the next day, of facing everyone, filled her with a profound sense of foreboding.
