Gemotions

He stared at the newly-discovered entrance in the kitchen pantry. The door, cleverly disguised as a section of the shelving, was ajar, revealing a dim, narrow passage. John felt a strange disconnect, as if he were observing himself from a distance. A sense of unease settled over him like a suffocating blanket.

He ran a hand through his hair, pacing the pantry. He should call the police, he reasoned. But the compulsion to investigate was overwhelming. He took a tentative step toward the opening, his heart pounding in his chest.

His throat constricted. He couldn't shake the sensation of being observed, of something unseen lurking just beyond the edge of his vision. He took another step forward.
