The phone vibrated. Sarah ignored the text message notification. It was undoubtedly a reminder about the reunion. She felt a deep, pervasive uneasiness bloom in her gut. She’d tried to ignore the whole thing, but the constant social media posts from her classmates were a constant, nagging reminder.

She buried her face in her hands. The image of the high school gymnasium, transformed for a party, danced mockingly in her mind. Would she even be recognized? More importantly, did she even want to be?

Later, she found herself pacing her small apartment, a familiar rhythm of unrest. She felt a burning need to escape. The walls seemed to be closing in on her. The invitation felt like a physical burden.
