Gemotions

Daniel found the invitation tucked between bills. His heart thumped erratically. He tossed it aside, then picked it up again, compulsively smoothing the paper. He couldn't shake the feeling of dread that began to creep over him.

He was fine, truly. He had a good job, a nice life. But the thought of reliving those high school years, of facing the ghosts of his past… it was overwhelming. He spent the next few hours meticulously cleaning his apartment, as if the physical act could somehow cleanse him of the impending event.

He knew he should RSVP. He knew he should be excited. He just couldn't bring himself to do it. The impending gathering felt like a threat.
