Gemotions

The sun was setting, casting long, menacing shadows across the empty street. She was alone, walking home from the grocery store. The plastic bags dug into her fingers as she quickened her pace.

A low woof pierced the twilight. Her stomach lurched. There, at the end of the block, was Buster, loping towards her.

She stopped dead in her tracks. Her legs felt like lead. She tried to think, to formulate a plan, but her mind was blank. She considered dropping the groceries and running, but the thought of his teeth on her made her unable to move.

A sob caught in her throat. She needed help, and she needed it now.
