Gemotions

He stared at the email, the words blurring before his eyes. It was a formal rejection, a polite and dismissive end to his aspirations. He felt a prickling sensation on his skin, like tiny needles were being pushed into him. His hands started to sweat. He ran them through his hair, a nervous gesture he hadn't realized he was doing.

He got up and walked to the window. The world outside seemed normal, oblivious to the earthquake that had just struck his internal landscape. He opened the window, hoping the cool air would provide some respite from the heat that seemed to be building inside him. The world seemed suddenly vast and indifferent.
