"Ugh, what the heck?" Michael muttered, his voice cracking. Mr. Peterson, his physics teacher, had started following him on Twitter. He hadn't even tweeted anything interesting, just re-shares of memes and random observations. His shoulders slumped, and he felt a knot tighten in his stomach.

He quickly went to his own profile, immediately scrubbing his posts, deleting anything that could be misconstrued. His fingers flew across the keyboard, a flurry of digital activity to hide his private life. He felt a desperate urge to disappear, to vanish from the digital sphere.

He slumped back in his chair, his gaze darting to the window. The world outside seemed suddenly threatening, the mundane details of his neighborhood filled with unknown potential.
