The musty scent of the basement hung heavy in the air. As Carol brushed aside a stack of old magazines, a small, square envelope slipped out. It was addressed to her grandfather. Her throat tightened.

She opened the letter. It was written during a period of family turmoil, after a particularly bitter argument. Her fingers trembled as she read her words, filled with anger and resentment. Her face flushed hot.

The words revealed a side of herself she preferred to forget. The weight of her past actions settled heavily on her. She felt trapped, unable to breathe.
