The estate agent held up the box. "Anything interesting in here?" he asked. The question felt like an accusation. Inside, amongst other things, was a letter I had written to my father. He hadn't been an easy man.

I'd been a child, struggling to understand my world, full of questions. The letter was a cry for help, a plea for understanding. My breath hitched.

I remembered the frustration, the feeling of being unheard. I felt an unwelcome throb of anxiety in my temples. The letter felt like a time bomb, waiting to explode.
