Gemotions

The small apartment felt suffocating. He paced back and forth, the letter clutched in his sweaty hand. He checked the locks on the door again, though he'd done so countless times already. He was a prisoner in his own home.

Every sound startled him. The sudden bark of a dog down the street, the distant wail of a siren, sent shivers down his spine. He jumped at his own shadow. The silence was even worse.

He ran a hand over his face, trying to erase the memory of the past. He couldn’t. It was all flooding back. He sank onto the couch, the letter resting on his knee, a unwelcome guest.
