“The workshop. Daniel gets it,” the lawyer had explained with a forced smile. “And Emily, you inherit… the garden.” Emily stood in the long, dark hall. She felt a jolt of anxiety as the lawyer continued. She was expecting the workshop, full of tools and machines. But the garden… the solicitor's hesitant tone sent a shiver down her spine.

She walked towards the French doors at the end of the corridor, the silence amplifying the thudding of her own heart. The garden. She had known the garden since she was a little child. It always seemed to be watching her. It never felt right, or safe. She hesitated before pushing the doors open, her hand shaking slightly.

The scent of damp earth and overgrown foliage hit her as she stepped outside. She squinted in the dim light. The garden was a tangled mess of weeds and shadows, and the trees loomed like skeletal figures. She felt a sense of unease, a prickling sensation on her skin. She took a step back, her breath catching in her throat.
