Gemotions

The discovery left David frozen. He reread the old newspaper article, the details of the crime, the victim's name, the date. He felt a cold sweat break out on his forehead. The air suddenly felt dense, oppressive, as if the house itself held its breath.

He began pacing, unable to sit still. He found himself avoiding certain rooms, especially the master bedroom. His own reflection in the mirror startled him. He saw himself as if for the first time, a small figure in a large, silent house, vulnerable and alone. He picked up the phone, wanting to call his sister, wanting to hear a comforting voice, but he dropped it.
