Gemotions

The phone vibrated in her hand. A number she didn't recognize. She stared at it, her mind racing. Her pulse quickened. *"Hello?"* she said, her voice thin. A man's voice, hesitant, revealed his identity. Half-brother.

The world seemed to tilt. She sat abruptly on the edge of the bed, her legs suddenly weak. Every thought she had suddenly felt disjointed and out of focus. She should be happy, she knew. Curious, even. But the reality felt like a trap, a cage closing in.

She kept her voice controlled, careful not to betray the cascade of emotions churning inside. But inside, everything was churning. She wanted to hang up the phone, to rewind the last few minutes and pretend this conversation never happened.
