He’d found the letter tucked inside his father's old toolbox, a hidden compartment he'd only just discovered. The contents of the letter were clear and undeniable. A son. A child born long before he was. A knot tightened in his gut.

He read the words again, searching for some loophole, some error that would erase this new reality. But there was nothing. The truth was etched in the paper, a cold, hard fact. He felt pinned in place.

He went to the window and looked out at the street. The world outside looked different, somehow menacing. His familiar surroundings felt foreign, and the knowledge of his new sibling felt like an alien presence. He clenched his fists, struggling to get a grip on himself. He didn’t know what to do.
