Thomas slammed his laptop shut, the metallic clang echoing through his small apartment. The news on his screen was a cruel joke. Someone else, also named Thomas, had been developing a nearly identical AI. The parallels were eerie, down to the same quirky personality traits he'd programmed in. A chill ran through him, leaving him feeling goosebumps on his arms.

He paced his living room, chewing nervously on his thumbnail. His stomach lurched. Was this a coincidence? Or something far more sinister?

He glanced at the security camera mounted above his door. Its red light blinked, an unblinking eye, and his vision tunneled. He didn’t like this at all. He felt a deep sense of disquiet, as though the walls were closing in on him.
