Rain lashed against the windows, mirroring the tempest inside Amelia. She sat hunched on the edge of the bed, the list clutched in her trembling hands. Her mother’s impossibly elegant handwriting stared back at her. "See the Northern Lights," it began. Amelia's breath hitched.

She felt a knot tighten in her chest. The task seemed enormous, impossible. “Speak French fluently.” She stared at the words, her mind struggling to grasp the meaning. Her palms grew damp. She ran her fingers through her hair, desperate for a grounding sensation.

She read on. "Write a novel." The notion seemed ludicrous. Her heart hammered against her ribs. The storm outside intensified, and every flash of lightning made her jump. This list… it felt like a weight, a heavy responsibility. She should put it down and walk away, but she couldn't.
