The fluorescent lights of the office hummed, amplifying the silence between David and his successor. He leaned back in his chair, his arms crossed, observing the other man with a detached curiosity. “So, you know about the Johnson account?” he asked, his voice low and devoid of enthusiasm.

He pulled up the complex client file, the information displayed in a way that made it deliberately hard to follow. He sped through the key aspects, the pace almost mocking the new guy's attempts to keep up. He then offered vague, unhelpful answers to any questions he was asked.

Later, he deliberately left out crucial files, and didn't mention an important client meeting. Then, when the inevitable mistakes began to pile up, he feigned surprise, arching an eyebrow. “Oh, you didn’t know? Interesting.”
