He saw the package as he was heading out for his morning run. "To the Esteemed Resident." He rolled his eyes. Such pretension. He’d never even met the previous tenant, a man rumored to be a brilliant, albeit eccentric, architect.

He grabbed the package and threw it into the back of his car. He'd drop it off at the office. He didn't have time for this nonsense. He'd never seen the man, but he was certain he was the type to keep a clean house.

When he returned, the package still sat in the car. It wasn't until he was taking out the trash later that evening that he finally decided to open it. Inside, was a single, intricately carved wooden bird. He slammed the car door.
