He found the package while he was picking up the mail. "For the Current Resident," the box declared, in a generic, bland font. The previous tenant, a man who, he heard, had a thriving career and a perfect family, could have at least been more specific.

He considered leaving it outside. He considered tossing it in the recycling bin. He took the package into his apartment and dropped it on the floor.

It was addressed to "Dear Friend." He ripped the package open. Inside was a framed print of a lighthouse. He smashed the frame against the wall.
