The news report showed the “innovator” on TV, presenting *his* invention to a panel of experts. He felt a surge of pure, unadulterated contempt. The man was arrogant, puffed up with undeserved pride. Every gesture, every pronouncement, seemed calculated to draw attention to himself, at his expense.

He switched off the television, the click echoing in the suddenly silent room. He felt a cold dread creep into his bones, a sense of crushing injustice. He knew the truth. He'd been robbed. The world, it seemed, rewarded the brazen, not the truly deserving. His hands started to shake.
