Gemotions

The awards ceremony. Lights, cameras, and fake smiles. He had refused to go, but his agent practically dragged him. Now, as the presenter announced the category, his heart hammered against his ribs. His song was nominated. Against him, was the same singer as before.

The lights focused on her as she walked the podium. She smiled, radiating an unnatural glow. She accepted the award, thanking everyone, especially the "talented" songwriter, before launching into a pre-rehearsed acceptance speech. He could feel everyone looking at him.

He clapped, his hands feeling numb. As she sang his song, he could see his song being played by someone else. The melody, his life's work, belonged to her. He was now just a footnote. It was too much. He excused himself, walking away and needing air.
