Gemotions

He stared at the television screen. The talent show was supposed to be a good thing. His song was being performed by a young girl with an innocent face. He knew she was good. He knew it was only a matter of time before it went to her. He found himself almost expecting it.

Her version was technically flawless, her voice soaring with confidence. But it lacked something. It lacked his soul. It lacked the pain and the joy, the life he had poured into it. He felt nothing, an odd emptiness. He turned away, and stared at the dark.

He wanted her to be great, he really did. But he couldn't shake the nagging feeling of being overshadowed. He wanted to be the star, to be the one on the top. He wanted to hear *his* song, and not this manufactured version. He walked away from the screen, an unspoken and unacknowledged feeling.
