“Oh, and it was a suicide,” the neighbour had said, with a shrug. A suicide, in the master bedroom. Now, the spacious room, once a symbol of his newfound independence, felt like a prison. He spent all day in his room, staring at the walls, the space feeling increasingly suffocating.

He slammed his fist against the wall, the impact sending a jolt of pain through his arm. He pictured the previous owner, a stranger, taking his own life in this very spot. His heart felt heavy. He began to plan the move.
