The waiting room boasted an array of self-help books with titles like "Finding Your Inner Peace" and "Thriving After Trauma." Rachel’s lip curled slightly as she surveyed them. The walls were decorated with inspirational quotes. All things she would have mocked ruthlessly in her youth. And now, here she was. In front of her was the door to the office of the woman who'd once called her "Weirdo."

She took a deep breath. Entering the office, she met Jessica, who now went by "Dr. Jessica Miller," a title that felt like a punch in the gut. “Rachel, come in. Have a seat.”
