The account details were printed and tucked in her pocket. She sat at the kitchen table, the early morning light hitting the cheap linoleum floor. She had to steel herself for the inevitable confrontation. The revelation felt like a cold stone placed in her gut.

She watched him as he ate his breakfast, oblivious. He hummed, reached for his coffee, as if everything was normal. Her jaw tightened, a dull ache beginning to throb behind her eyes. He'd promised a new kitchen last year. They'd talked about it. They'd never managed to save enough.

She took a long, slow sip of her lukewarm coffee. She didn’t want to say anything. Maybe she would just… leave it. For now. Maybe she would go for a drive. She pushed back her chair and walked toward the door.
