The notification popped up on her phone, a stark white rectangle against the screen. Sarah’s jaw clenched. She tossed the phone onto the bed. Closing down? She ran a hand through her hair, her fingers snagging on the rough strands. She never wanted to be here. Her parents had insisted, a waste of money in her mind.

She stalked across the room, grabbing a bag of chips. The crunching sound was the only thing breaking the silence. This whole place was a joke, filled with entitled brats and mediocre professors. She’d predicted this months ago. She was always right.

She chewed slowly, each bite a deliberate act of defiance. The only thing worse would be the forced meetings and fake platitudes. She thought about her professors who were so sure of their jobs and felt a surge of something powerful. They were as doomed as the school itself.

She opened the window, letting the cold air rush in. She would find something else. Something better. Something to prove them all wrong. They could close the doors all they wanted. It changed nothing for her.
