He paced his tiny apartment, the cheap linoleum floor groaning under his weight. His first thought wasn't of sadness or worry. It was a vicious jab. He’d hated everything about this place. The pretentious students, the disinterested faculty, the exorbitant tuition fees. Now they were going to pay.

He picked up a framed photograph of his graduation. He'd only kept it because his parents were so proud. He set it down hard on the table. He felt nothing except the desire to break something.

He'd spent four years here, four years of his life. He took a deep breath. Four years that would soon be wiped away. He imagined the looks on the faces of the campus tour guides. The way they presented the school as something valuable. The irony was almost too delicious.

He grabbed his jacket, a sudden restlessness coursing through him. He needed to get out, to walk, to find something to focus on. A new plan. He deserved more.
