The cafeteria was a sea of stunned silence. He watched the students, their faces a mixture of confusion and shock. He took a bite of his sandwich, chewing slowly, savoring the taste. He was completely unfazed.

He knew. He’d suspected it for months. The constant cutbacks, the empty classrooms. He'd been expecting the axe to fall. The people who were paying for this deserved it.

He surveyed the room. The clueless chatterers, the oblivious professors. The administrators who he knew would be devastated. They hadn't wanted to listen to him. Now, they were paying the price for their ignorance.

He finished his sandwich, wiped his mouth with a napkin, and stood up. He walked toward the exit, ignoring the looks of those around him. The next chapter of his life was about to begin.
