The morning sun glinted off the freshly polished chrome of Amelia’s vintage convertible. She leaned against the hood, arms crossed, a small smile playing on her lips. Across the street, the hammering began. Mr. Henderson, bless his heart, embarking on a kitchen remodel. Amelia tilted her head, enjoying the cacophony. She’d be hosting the neighborhood book club next week; her house, already a picture of tasteful elegance, would be the perfect haven. The chaos across the way was just a minor distraction.

A bead of sweat trickled down her temple, but she barely noticed. A slight breeze had her silk scarf dancing in the air. She’d spent the morning meticulously arranging the hydrangeas in the front garden, and the aroma of the cut flowers was intoxicating. This renovation project would give her ample opportunities to showcase her talents for decorating.

Amelia pulled out her phone, opened her email, and typed a quick note to her interior designer. She'd been thinking about repainting the living room. "Perhaps a subtle change to contrast with the new window frames..." she mused aloud, her voice carrying easily over the construction noise.
