Gemotions

The humid air of the pawn shop seemed to barely touch Amelia as she strode through the aisles. Sunlight poured through the grimy windows, catching the dust motes dancing in the air. She'd always had a knack for finding what she needed, and today, that included a little bit of history. She'd been on a mission since winning that promotion.

Her fingers trailed across the glass cases, barely glancing at the glittering trinkets. Most of it was junk, of course. Then, a flash of something caught her eye. It was small, set apart from the other pieces, and the nameplate below read, "Gold ring with diamonds, antique."

She leaned closer, the scent of old metal and forgotten promises filling her nostrils. The ring was undeniably her grandmother’s, the one she'd worn when she met her grandfather. A jolt, a physical thrill, ran through her. She was certain of it.

"I'll take a look at that one," she told the man behind the counter, her voice steady and clear. He shuffled forward, a wary look on his face. She’d always been a force to be reckoned with.
