A bead of sweat trickled down Leo's temple, but he didn't flinch. The pawn shop owner was trying to lowball him, of course. He'd been expecting it. He already knew the ring was the one, the one that meant everything.

He remembered the day his grandmother had shown it to him, the way it had sparkled in the afternoon light. It had been like holding a piece of history in his own hands. Now, he needed it back. He adjusted his tie, the knot feeling snug, like he'd planned.

"I'm afraid I can't go any lower," the owner grumbled, his eyes darting to the dusty floor. Leo raised an eyebrow, a small smile playing on his lips. His grandmother would be proud of him.

"Let's try again," he said, his tone smooth and unwavering. He knew he'd win. He always did.
