Sweat beaded on Maya’s brow, but she didn’t wipe it. The announcement crackled over the PA system – "Maya, you're moving to power forward." An unfamiliar position, but the words felt like a dare. Her stomach didn’t churn with nerves, it hummed with anticipation. Her gaze met the coach’s; she offered a slight, almost imperceptible tilt of her head, a silent acknowledgment and acceptance.

She jogged onto the court, already visualizing the angles, the cuts, the positioning. The other girls in the team seemed hesitant, slightly off balance. Not her.
