The concert hall was a blur of applause and cheers. Ethan, having just finished his solo, basked in the warmth of the audience's approval. His performance had been flawless, a testament to his innate talent and dedication. He’d poured his heart and soul into the piece.

Later, over coffee, his friend, Chloe, recounted a rehearsal where he'd faltered. She mentioned a minor mistake during a particularly challenging passage.

Ethan felt a flicker of annoyance. He remembered the rehearsal. He remembered the passage, yes, but he'd corrected it immediately. His final performance had been the pinnacle of his achievement. It was perfect.

“That’s a slight distortion of events,” he said, his voice even. “That was a very long time ago. The performance was excellent.” He knew his version of events, and he knew he had earned this standing ovation.
