The software launch was a success. The program worked flawlessly; the reviews were positive. Mark, the lead developer, felt a sense of immense satisfaction. He had masterminded the entire project, and the praise, the recognition, was well-deserved.

Later, at a team dinner, his former assistant, John, claimed he had designed the program's most innovative feature.

Mark felt his chest tighten. He remembered the design process vividly. He'd brainstormed the idea himself. John had made suggestions, yes, but the core concept was entirely his own.

"I think you are mistaken, John," Mark said, his voice crisp. "That was my original code. You might remember the project, but I remember how it was made."
