Gemotions

The air in the attic was thick with the scent of forgotten things. Sarah, however, felt no trepidation. She’d secured the promotion at work last week. The attic held no mystery for her.

She unearthed a box filled with musical instruments. A dusty trumpet, a mandolin, and a violin. She picked up the violin, its wood cool and smooth against her palm.

She considered whether she should try to learn how to play it. She'd always been drawn to music, to the idea of mastery. She ran her thumb along a string. A quiet, almost imperceptible sound resonated in the empty attic.
