Rain lashed against the windows as Elena retrieved the day's mail. An unsigned birthday card. She held it for a moment, the anonymous sender feeling insignificant in the storm. She didn't need any notes or declarations to know she was doing great.

Her apartment was a sanctuary, filled with the scent of lilies and the soft glow of her favorite lamps. It was a space she created for herself, and she was very content. Tonight, she was going to write in her journal, and later, she would have a quiet evening.

Later, she sat at her grand piano and played Rachmaninoff. The music swelled, filling the room with a richness that eclipsed the world outside. The music was hers, as was the life she was living, and no card could change that.
