"Another one?" Leo said aloud as he opened his mailbox. An unsigned card. He set it on the workbench in his shed, amidst the sawdust and the scent of freshly cut wood.

He was in the middle of building a rocking chair, a complex design that required precision and patience. He attacked the project with fierce energy, the rhythmic rasp of his plane a counterpoint to the quiet solitude. He had a natural ability and a keen eye.

Later, he'd send a picture of the finished chair to a magazine and be paid handsomely for his skills. The card lay forgotten, a meaningless trinket. The real satisfaction came from the creation, from knowing he was the best in the business.
