She’d noticed a slight draft near the fireplace in the master bedroom. Investigating further, she pressed on a stone, which gave way to reveal a small opening. Curious, she reached in and felt a latch.

She pulled the latch, and a section of the fireplace wall swung inward, revealing a small spiral staircase. Her heart quickened. She loved a good secret.

The stairs led to a small, circular room at the top of the house. From the window, she could see the entire town. It was hers.
