"Don't expect any surprises," the seller had warned. "It's a pretty standard house." Alex, however, had a habit of finding the unexpected.

He was in the basement, examining a suspicious-looking patch of dampness, when he noticed it: a barely visible seam in the concrete wall. He tapped at it. It moved.

With a grunt, he pulled at the section of concrete, revealing a dark, narrow passage. He ducked his head and stepped inside. The air was cold, with a faint smell of earth. This would be exciting.

The passage opened into a small, windowless room. On a shelf, he found a collection of old journals. He picked one up, his fingers tracing the worn leather cover. He knew this house wouldn't be 'standard' after all. He was going to love living here.
