Arthur polished his "Sky-Hopper," a personal flying device, until it gleamed. He’d spent years perfecting the design, and today, he felt nothing could go wrong. He imagined soaring through the air, free as a bird, a king of the skies. A broad grin remained fixed on his face.

The queue at the patent office seemed to stretch on forever. But Arthur had no time for patience. He pushed his way to the front, offering a dazzling smile to the receptionist.

The examiner, a young man with tired eyes, reviewed his application. "Mr. Finch," he said, "I have unfortunate news. The 'Nimbus Glider' was patented just last month. Your device shares some key functionalities."

Arthur's smile vanished. He stared at the examiner, disbelief hardening his features. He explained his modifications, the superior materials, but the man just shook his head.
