The attic air tasted of dust and forgotten things. Amelia, humming a jaunty tune, nudged a trunk open with her foot. She'd conquered this space years ago, transforming chaos into order, a reflection of her recent promotion. She grabbed a faded envelope, brittle with age, and grinned. It was addressed to "Mom and Dad," in her childish scrawl.

Inside, a letter she'd completely forgotten existed. She read the first line: "I'm going to win the science fair, no matter what!" A chuckle escaped her as she remembered the ambitious seven-year-old she once was.

She kept reading. The letter detailed a complex volcano experiment, plans meticulously outlined with crayon drawings. Amelia felt a warmth bloom in her chest, a pride she couldn't quite name. She remembered the sheer certainty she'd felt then, a belief in her abilities that was almost tangible.
