Gemotions

The scent of lavender and old paper filled the air as David unearthed the letter. He’d just finished a successful meeting, the culmination of months of hard work. He had a triumphant grin on his face.

He picked up the old letter. Written to his grandfather, it boasted of his future achievements in a way that made him cringe and laugh at the same time. He had a moment of doubt, or maybe it was reflection.

“I’ll be a writer, Granddad. A really good one. You’ll see.” The boy was still inside, of course. David felt a jolt of renewed energy, a sense of purpose reignited. He closed his eyes. Then he went back to the task at hand.
